Portishead Slipway is sited close to the famous big Cod mark that is Battery Point, this venue is ideal when the tides are to big fish the point. The ground is clear here but unfortunately it consist of thick mud which you spend most of your time in !
Tackle
Beach rods capable of casting 5- 6oz are required, reels such as the Daiwa Saltist range loaded with 18-20lb mainline & 60lb leader will suffice.
Pulley or drop down pulley rigs are perfect for this venue, leads should be 6oz grippers
Bait
Mackerel & Squid wrap is my favourite bait for the Thornbacks.
Ragworm fished on a size 1 hook can be used to target Dover Sole from July onwards.

A 12lb Cod caught on whole Squid taken from Battery Point in December, was a few years ago though !
Myself with a couple of Bristol Channel Thornbacks, the biggest weighing just over 10lb.
