Capstone Point, Illfracombe

Capstone Point was once renowned for the large Cod & Whiting it produced, today it still throws up the odd big Cod along with specimen Conger Eels, Spurdogs and various Rays.

Tackle

Beach rods with a stiff action capable of casting 6oz & bait are required, fast retrieve reels such as the Daiwa Saltist range loaded with 20 - 25lb mainline & 80lb leader will suffice.

Pulley rigs are perfect for this venue allowing you to get the lead up off the bottom quickly, leads should ideally be 6-7oz grip weights.

Bait

Squid, Cuttlefish, Launce, Mackerel, Herring & Garfish will catch here.

Here I am with my PB Spurdog weighing in at 13lb 10oz.

My PB Eel from North Devon which weighed 35lb. It took a cocktail of Herring & Squid while targeting the Spurdogs.
