Sea Fishing
South West
South West Beach Marks
Beesands & Slapton,
Devon
Site Title

Slapton & Beesands are classic steep shelving shingle beaches where deep water is within easy reach. It is possible to catch almost anything from these venues, from Plaice to Conger and from Mackerel to Cod. In the last few years the Plaice fishing has made a remarkable comeback with catches of 10 fish not uncommon.
Tackle
Beach rods capable of casting 5- 6oz are required, reels such as the Daiwa 7HT Mag loaded with 15lb mainline & 60lb leader will suffice.
Pulley or drop down pulley rigs are perfect for this venue when targeting the larger species such as Cod or Ray, if targeting smaller fish such as Plaice, Dab or Whiting then a 1 or 2 hook clipped down rig with size 1's will suffice. Leads should ideally be 5-6oz either plain or grip weights.
Bait
Frozen Sand eels ( Blue Ammo eels are the perfect size) for the Ray.
Black Lug, Blow Lug or Ragworm for the Flatfish.
Mackerel strip fished on a float for Mackerel, Garfish & Scad.

Here I am with a lovely fat shore caught Plaice from
Slapton. Note the coloured beads on the hook snood.
Slapton (top) & Beesands (bottom) are both popular competition venues.

Left, the perfect Plaice bait a big bunch of fresh Ragworm.
Note I have removed 1 set of grip wires to allow the rig to move slowly.
